In 2005, my family and I were taking a one year State-side assignment away from our mission field in Brussels, Belgium. Clarkston International Bible Church (CIBC) invited us to come and share what we had seen God doing among immigrants and refugees flooding into Western Europe. We were excited to tell our story. As missionaries working among 40 different people groups, we had seen God do miracles! We knew first hand how God loves the alien and the stranger. But, we were not prepared for what we found in Clarkston.
In this 125-year-old church were the same people groups that we had known in Belgium. God had brought the world to a little suburb, just 11 miles east of Atlanta, Georgia! People groups from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the ex-Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, all within a one-mile radius of this wonderful, old Baptist Church. Plus, the people of CIBC had already organized themselves, committing their future and ministry to reaching these people groups with the old, old story of Jesus and His love! Fantastic!
In January 2006, we packed our things, left Belgium, and came to pastor CIBC, one of the most exciting multi-ethnic, multi-economic, multi-cultural, multi-fun churches in America. God, as always, has been gracious and done great things among us.
