The "New Americans" who attend the DeKalb County "English as a Second Language" classes, conducted at CIBC, need to have a means to search for a job. Most of them do not have access to a computer connected to the internet at home. Our Pastor (Phil Kitchin) saw this need and started working on a plan to allow CIBC to provide internet access to these students.
At every opportunity, he would talk to the leadership of our partner churches about his desire to set up a facility with several computers, all connected to the internet. One of those churches offered to provide five computers, monitors, Cat5e cabling, and associated switching. Another church donated five more computers and monitors.
The space selected for the Internet Cafe' was originally the Church Library. Since the usage of the Library had severely declined, it was decided to move the books, bookcases, trophies, video tapes, etc. out of the room and set up tables for the computers. All of this computer equipment is now installed and wired to the internet using a cable modem connected to Comcast.
