 Wonderful Wednesday

The DeKalb County government conducts "English as a Second Language" classes in one of the CIBC buildings.  At about 10:30 AM each day the students have a break from the classrooms.  On Wednesday of each week that the classes are in session, our Pastor (Phil Kitchin) holds a service in the Christian Life Center gym for these students.  We call it "Wonderful Wednesday".

Phil leads the group in singing and has a devotional time featuring stories from the Bible.  These stories are enhanced by PowerPoint presentations projected on a large screen.  After the service, volunteers serve the students cookies and punch.  We also pass out DVD's of the "Jesus Film" in up to 21 languages for the students to take home.

Clarkston has been called the most diverse community in the southeastern United States, with 50 nationalities speaking 22 languages registered in the high school.

The city of Clarkston owes much of its beginnings to the Georgia Railroad.  In the 1830's, the Georgia Railroad built a rail line through what is now Clarkston from Atlanta to Athens.  Clarkston was officially chartered and named in 1882.  It is located 5 miles east of Decatur and 5 miles west of Stone Mountain and encompasses approximately 700 acres or 1.1 square miles.

During the mid 1990's Clarkston and surrounding areas were designated as a federal refugee resettlement area for people fleeing persecution throughout the world.  This influx of immigrants helped create one of the most diverse multi-cultural cities in the southeast.

Clarkston International Bible Church has accepted and embraced this situation as a great opportunity for reaching out to people of all nationalities.
